Christmas Tree Rules! 5 Things to Know

Nov 20, 2019

MEASURE! –Know the height of the ceiling in the room where you’ll place the tree. It’s not unusual for people to guess the height. After bringing a tree home, the last thing you want is to find out it’s too tall! 5 minutes with a tape measure will save you a huge inconvenience. Add in 10-12″ for the stand too.

Freshness – Freshness means a longer lasting tree, but how will you know how fresh the tree is? To find out, reach into the center of the tree, take hold of a branch and pull outward. Some needles will always shed, that’s natural, but you don’t want to see too many needles fall to the ground. If more than 20% fall, find another tree.

A Fresh Cut –The trunk of the tree needs a fresh cut of 2″. If you’re equipped with a saw, you can take care of this at home. Otherwise, Faddegon’s will do this on the spot. This allows the tree to absorb the water it needs to when it goes in a stand.

Temperature –When placing your tree, pay attention to fireplaces, pellet stoves and heat registers. The further away from these sources you can place your tree the better. Coolness will help keep trees and fresh greens from drying out too fast.

Moisture – Put your tree in its stand with water as quickly as you can after having a fresh cut on the trunk. If you can’t, then place the tree in a bucket of water as a temporary measure. It’s essential not to let the tree dry out from this point on. It’s best to check the water level in your stand 2 or 3 times for the first few days. Your tree may drink more than you expect, so be vigilant!   Recycling – If you buy your tree at Faddegon’s, we’ll give you a coupon toward spring merchandise when you bring it in for us to compost.
