What Vegetables to Plant - It's Personal!

There is no type of gardening that is more personal than a vegetable garden. What does your family like to eat? The "what to plant" in your garden is literally a reflection of your family's tastes. Make a list of what you like and go for it!
Start with tomatos! There is simply nothing like a tomato fresh from the garden. Heirloom Brandywine Tomatos and Sweet 100 Cherry tomatos are favorites! Other must haves: basil, swiss chard and mint for the mohitos!

Where to Plant Vegetables

Plant a vegetable garden where the sun shines. Vegetables need at least 6 hours of sun a day.
Plant where there is good drainage. Water shouldn't puddle in your garden. Get yourself a great sprinker and a high quality hose that doesn't kink and tangle. Well made garden tools are just like that favorite kitchen knife - they make all chores easier! Don't have room for an in ground plot - no worries! Vegetables love containers. Mix them into your landscape and surround yourself with edibles!

The how to plant a vegetable garden is largely about soil preparation. There is an old adage, 'There is not much sense in planting a $10 plant in a 10 cent hole!' Vegetables need to grow and produce in a short amount of time. Soil that is rich in compost and well cultivated will give your vegetables the support they need.
